Question Title: Urination Frequency and Abdominal Pain

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Urology - General

29 y/o male. Feeling of urgency most of the day to urinate, even just a few moments after a complete urination. Also very tender right testicle. When I go a second time, at least a little comes out. I NEVER feel empty, and have become good at ignoring the feeling sometimes. Still, though, I urinate many times a day, and several times at night before I turn out the light. It rarely wakens me, but if not asleep I get this feeling (even right after going), and I know I won't fall asleep if I don't get up and take care of it.

My GP ran cultures that show no problems, several weeks of one antibiotic with no help (sometimes the testicle is so bad I have to use a heat pad at night). Then a stronger antibiotic provided temporary relief, but pain returned after a few days. Doc. now says perhaps I am concentrating on it too much and should consider not thinking about it (it's in my head). I accepted that, he's a doc, right, and for the past two weeks have been okay.

For the past two days, it seems to be back with a vengance. I have a strange abdominal pain that feels similar to hunger pains, and my testicle feels like a burning sensation. Additionally, my right glutius muscle (butt cheek) feels sore, as if I pulled it. No strenuous exercise lately (mild bench presses right before glutius pain, mild and short). I'm worried about contacting my GP for this because, like I said above, it's all in my head. I would appreciate any advice you may have to offer.

Dear J Smith
Thanks for your questions.
Many genitourinary processes can have similar symptoms including psychological. You doctors jobs is to make sure there is nothing physically wrong before he blames it on psychological. Has he checked for kidney stones? (Rhetorical question). A passing kidney stone can cause testicular pain and frequency but usually the urine has some red blood cells. If he is uncomfortable at all with your psychological cause, ask him to refer you to a urologist for a second opinion. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling 1-800-653-6568. We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
