I am a 37 year old male with apparently normal sexual function. (No erection problems, no pain, no bladder infections or urination problems, etc...)Recently I have noticed a brownish coloration in some of my semen discharge after masturbation (some is white, some is brown.) Is this a sign of disease or is it normal? I have never noticed it before. Could this be a function of infrequent sexual activity? Due to frequent business travel and stress, I usually have sex/masturbation about once/week.
= Dear Dan Thanks for your question. Old blood looks brown so you may have had some small bleed into your semen. I would recommend seeing a urologist for a more specific history and at least a digital rectal exam and a urinalysis, just to make sure this commonly benign condition (called hematospermia) is not a symptom of something more serious. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly. This information is provided for general medical education purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition. Sincerely; HFHS-M.D. MS *Keyword:hematospermia
