Dear Joseph
Thanks for your questions.
A lot of men have a split stream upon initiation of voiding. The flow is slower and easier to go off course. Prostatism (the collection of symptoms related to prostate function as related to urine flow) or a urethral stricture ( narrowing of the urethra from scarring from STDs or trauma) are the most likely causes though nerve problems with an individuals bladder can at times result in this sowing of your flow. If this continues to be a problem or gets worse I would have it looked into by a Board Certified Urologist. They can measure the flow or look in with a scope to see if there is a narrowing.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
