| I am 27 years old and have been masturbating constantly almost every day for the last ten years. Now I am married and considering starting a family will the excessive masturbating affect my sperm count or cause my sperm to be immature. Please help. ear Lloyd, Masturbation is very common. To date, there have been numerous causes and contributions to decreased sperm function and masturbation is not one of them. However, masturbation can decrease sperm "reserve." This is not permanent, however. What I would suggest is that you decrease the frequency of masturbation to save the sperm count for fertility. You must also consider the timing of fertility. Some of the most common sexual problems encountered in sexual infertility are either too frequent or too infrequent intercourse, and understanding the menstrual cycle. The most optimal time for intercourse is midcycle, and the most effective frequency of intercourse is every 48 hours. This is based on the fact that sperm survival in normal cervical mucus is approximately 2 days. Thus, this frequency will assure viable spermatozoa concurrently in the 24-hour period during which the egg will be within the fallopian tube and capable of being fertilized.
