injection therapy

I have had different opinions about the frequency of using penile injection  therapy.  One doctor says once a week another  as often as you want.  Can I damage the  penis by two frequent injections say 3 or 4 times a week? viagra does not work for me as I have had a radical prostectomy for prostate cancer

Dear Garyd,

Problems with erections after treatment fpr prostate cancer is a common problem.  Many treatment options exist and penile self injection is an excellant treatment option.  This involves drawing up a certain dose of medication and self injecting it into the corpora cavernosa (erectile body) of the penis.  The medicine increases the blood flow into the penis to achieve afirm erection.

This procedure should be done on alternating sides to decrease the risks of penile scarring.  Excessive doses can lead to painful, dangerous, prolonged erections (priapism) requiring immediate medical attention.  The lowest effective dose is recommended.  If erections last longer than one hour, then the dose should be reduced.  The injecions should not be performed more than three times a week with at least 24 hours between doses.  Sterile technique should be used to help prevent infection.
