Weak Erection

by Dcd1, Jul 08, 2003 12:00AM
Hello,

I am only 26 but have been experiencing weak erections as of late.  I have not been able to achieve a firm erection during masturbation or sex for quite some time and am frankly getting worried.  I still have morning erections the way they should be but any other time it is not.  At times I have a slight soreness on my penis.  It isn't painful but bothersome enough to notice it.  I have scheduled an appointment with a urologist but it isn't for another 3 weeks and not having any idea about what is wrong is driving me crazy.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

There are several causes for erectile dysfunction.  Any type of vascular disease or anatomical abnormality can cause a change in the character of the erection.  Other things to consider would include psychological stress or endocrine abnormalities.

One test to consider would include nocturnal penile tumescence testing which can determine between organic and "non-organic" (i.e. psychogenic) causes of erectile dysfunction.

Other studies to consider would be an ultrasound to examine the blood vessels to and from the penis.  I would also measure the testosterone level.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
