mild urinary pressure

by ginaru, Dec 02, 2004 12:00AM
Im a 39 year old female and had a Urinary Tact Infection 4 months ago. This past month i've had cloudy urine with pressure to begin with. This is the same beginning I had with my UTI. The Urolgist said I have no infection and my urine shouldnt be milky white. Im going for an ultra sound and I think kidney imaging to check for stones next week. Im really worried that I have interscystinal cystits. The first week I had the urge to urinate for 3 to 5 hours a day then as the day or nite went on it would subside.  Then it would happen again for about 5 days. Then I would feel better. Also I noticed stuff floating in my urine. I thought it was skin, but I fished out a piece and it was mucus. I noticed when the mucus lessened so did my urge to urinate. If no stones are found I have to have a cystocopy of the bladder. Ive also noticed my bladder and urethra feel itchy. I also have had an ovarian cyst two years ago which was too small to operate on and am thinking if it's there can that cause this problem. I also have monthly migraines and was told by someone that if I drink 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda this would help. I did this 3 times a day in one month. And three times a day in the second month. Two weeks later I started having these problems and am wondering if the baking soda caused this because I only drank it with 1 and 1/2 inches of water. I appreciate any help. Gina

It is unlikely that the baking soda is causing the symptoms.  The ultrasound would be a reasonable step, not only for stones, but to examine the kidneys.  The CT scan would be a better test for stones than the ultrasound.  I agree that the cystoscopy would be a reasonable next step if the imaging was negative.

If interstitial cystitis is a concern, a potassium sensitivity test would be a reasonable test to consider.  This test would evaluate for abnormal permeability and can be considered along with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
