Ejaculation is blood red

by Malone47, Dec 06, 2004 12:00AM
I am 47 yrs. old. About 6 months ago I suddenly discovered that

when I ejaculated it was "tinted" red with blood. After seeing

the Doctor at Kaiser in Urology and getting a PSA test, a rectal

examine and some blood work drawn, he determined that all my test

results were in the normal range. His explanation for my condition was that blood vessels were popping, like a nose bleed

and not to worry about it. For a short while everything was okay.

I even got a vasectomy three weeks ago. I discovered last week

that my ejaculate is REALLY blood red now and my instincts tell

me to be worried even though my Doctor assures me its okay. He

said my only other testing option at this time is to have an ultrasound probe through the rectum to look for things around the prostrate. PLease note that they have never run a test on the

sample of my ejacuate which seems stupid to me. The issue of blood is only visibly present in the ejaculate, nothing in the urine. About 2 months prior to the first incident that I ever noticed the blood, I had some sort of structural injury to the

base of my penis that took 3 to 4 weeks to heal. The injury

made in painful for my erection to hold it's own weight. My gut instinct tells me that there is some sort of injury in the urethra which for some reason has worsened and makes my ejaculate seem more blood in content than ejaculate. It also doesn't "feel" like an orgasm anymore. There also appears to be some presence of clotting in the ejaculate. So....here's my question.

What is going on with me? Does it seem more like an injury or

could we be talking cancer? What other investigative options do

I have to find the cause? I am really, really, REALLY worried.

Thank you very much!

Most cases of blood in the ejaculate are benign, however, there are some more dangerous diagnoses that should be excluded before coming to that conclusion.

That would include any type of prostate disorders - such as a mass or infection.  A transrectal ultrasound should be considered to image the prostate.

Another consideration would be a cystoscopy to ensure there isn't any bladder issues causing the discomfort.

You may want to discuss these options with your urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
