Bloody Ejaculate/Urine ONLY after intercourse

by Gish3429, Mar 15, 2005 12:00AM
30 Year Old Type 1 Diabetic - Decent blood sugar control - I have been dealing with this condition for a couple of years now. This has only happened after orgasm. Ejaculate is bloody, and the 1st urine after is all blood, until a blood clot passes, then everything is clear. I have had abdominal CT, everything is fine. Also, no trace of infection. Urologist put me on Proscar, and I went almost a year and a half without incident. After intercourse, had blood again, and this time I could not pass the clot, very painful. Took 2 days and I finally passed a very large clot, and as soon as that passed everything was clear. My doctor never appears very worried, and said that it may happen again, but that Proscar is effective in dealing with it. I am also sceduled to have a cysto in 2 weeks as a precaution. My frustration is growing as I have cut out all caffeine and alcohol hoping that this would help, but the last 2 orgasms have been bloody (very hard to enjoy intimacy). Is there a better alternative to Proscar (I also take Saw Palmetto)? My diet is not great, too high in fat - Could this be causing a problem? Also, if this is something that I will just have to deal with, is there anything that can help pass the blood clot? The 1st few times, it always passed painlessly with the 1st urination, but the last times have been pretty horrible. Thanks.

Blood in the ejaculate can be caused by infection, prostate problems, or prostate cancer.  There are cases where no cause is found.

The disease you want to rule out is of course cancer.  I would consider a transrectal ultrasound to image the prostate for any masses.

If there is blood in the urine, then bladder cancer would need to be considered.  A cystoscopy would be the most reasonable test to evaluate for this.

If everything is negative, then a more conservative approach (as you are doing) would be appropriate.

You can discuss these options with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
