Interstitial Cyctistis-Going to specialist ???

by noelle54, Apr 04, 2005 12:00AM
Hello I have a question about interitial cystisis.  I have always gotten bladder infections since I was in high school.  Now I am 28.  I had a baby about 22 months ago and a couple times since I have had her I have been told by my doctor that I have a bladder infection.  But this last time I went in it didn't feel like a bladder infection.  The docotr said my urine was infected and put me on antibotics but they didn't help.It didn't burn when I went pee but it feels like alot of pressure down there.  It hurts inside of me on the left side.  It is a constant pain.  It doesn't hurt that bad but it is a annoying pain.  It doesn't hurt all the time but Most of the time I can feel it.  My doctor is sending me to a specialist to check for interstital cyctistis.  Does this sound like that to you.  If you have that can you feel it sometimes but not all the time.  And my pain inside of me feels like it is real low.  Like it is right down on the outside of my gential area but it is inside.  I know this sounds weird but It is very hard to explain.  I do hav HSV type 1 and 2 , but I have no visual sores.  And I take Vlatrex 1 gram daily.  So I know this isn't a ob because it wouldn't last a couple of weeks.  Alos can this come on this fast.  where one week I am fine and then the next I had this constant pain.  Can you also explain to me in "english langugae"  what this is.  I really can't find anything online that it expains it to me where I understand it what this is.  One more.  What about getting pregnant.  I have been trying and I should ovualte this week but my apponitment to the specialist isn't for 3 more weeks.  Can I try this month or should I wait? Is there anything that I can do to help the annoying pain until then.  Sorry ao long just confused an worried.  Thank you.

Interstitial cystitis can certainly be a possibility.   Typically, this can present as pain, pelvic pressure, or urinary urgency in any combination.  Of course, I would assume that common things like a UTI as well as STDs have already been ruled out.

To diagnose for this, a potassium sensitivity test can be administered at a urology office.

Other tests to consider would be a cystoscopy - which can evaluate the bladder for any signs of disease that may lead to the symptoms.

I am not aware that institial cystitis being a contraindication to pregnancy - however I cannot make a more informed comment on this without examining you.  I would discuss this with your personal physician or in conjunction with a urology evaluation.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
