Partially Numb Penis..

by junior73, Oct 10, 2005 12:00AM
Hello All..

My question has to do with something that happened to me when I was 18..on my 19th birthday in fact.I noticed that below about an inch below the head of my penis, where there is a visible blood vessel,it began to feel numb..no sensation below that point at the tip.I am still able to acheive and maintain an erection, athough the loss of sensation was always disturbing, and as such I find it very difficult to perform with a condom. At 19,I begged my father to take me to a urologist, who dissmissed it as psychosomatic-related to my virginity at the time, and prescribed me yohimbe (this was 1992.)I took tests for diabetes (a factor since I am an overwieght African American male) which came out negative.I don't have any nubness issues anywhere else but there.I am now 32 years old and finally wish to speak out about it,ask what it could be,is it reversible, and if so,which doctor will be receptive to helping me fix this problem,if it can be fixed? I know I'm not crazy,Something happened!I also had breast reduction surgery done about 9 months earlier..could that,or anything related to it(anesthesia) Be a factor? I would really appreciate any and all advice and recommmendations you give however positive or gloomy they may be...thanks for listening!

Difficult to say without examination.  There can be several causes for numbness, including metabolic disorders like diabetes, thyroid problems or vitamin b-12 deficiency.  These disorders can be evaluated via various blood tests.

You can also evaluate for any potential neuropathy via electrodiagnostic studies in conjunction with a neurologist.

I am not aware of this symptom being related to the breast reduction surgery.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician, with possible referrals to a urologist or neurologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
