LOW SPERM MOTILITY AND PROSTITIS (please help!)

by mask, Jan 03, 2006 12:00AM
Dear Dr., It all started when i decided to make a sperm count LAST WEEK. I went to the lab (after two days of non-sexual activity) and gave a sperm sample. The lab guy took a drop of the sample and put it under the microscope and told me that without making the whole test he could see that i have a very low motility ( i mean low!) and that its not worth it to conitnue the test and i should go visit a urologist. Which i did and he checked me (ultrasound and rectal) told me that i have an infection in the prostitis and prescribed antibiotics. I was/still am very worried so i decided to have a second opinion so i went to another urgologist and he told me that it could be true that i have an infection in the prostatis which could be the reason for low motility however, before prescribing any medictaion he wants to have a full sperm culture, urine and blood tests (which am due to make next week).

For your information:

1. I got two women pregnant before (3-4 years ago)

2. I had clamydia on various occasions (since 3 -4 years) which i treated some very well and others not that well.

3. I am urinating a lot (but little or no burns)

My questions are:

1. Does an infection in the prositis cause such a low motility?

2. Do i have a chance of increasing the motility again with antibiotics and vitamins?

3. could the clamydia have had a great effect on it (which am negative of now).

PLEASE HELP ME AS AM 29 YEARS OLD AND IN GREAT DISTRESS!

To answer your questions:

1) It may be possible that the prostate infection can result in motility problems.

2) It would depend on what is causing the motility problems.  If it is an infection, then antibiotics may help.  I am not aware of vitamins that can improve this condition.

3) If the chlamydia has been appropriately treated, it is unlikely to contribute to the problem.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
