Stent pain

I'am 44 years old white male. I have passed aproximently 70 kidney stones over the last 24 years. Most of the kidneystones were 3 to 5 mm in size with atleast 10 being 8 to 10 mm.
I recently had a urinary stent put in my left side. When I urinate I have moderate to severe pain near my left kidney area. My doctor said this is nothing to worry about as it just the urine backing up trying to get out. I will need to have the stent in place for 4 weeks. Is having this pain during urination ok? Thanks for your advice!

Difficult to say withou examination.
Imaging the kidneys for hydronephrosis (i.e. enlargement) can be considered to ensure this isn't casuing the pain.
Of course, ensuring that nothing wrong with the stent (i.e. placement, infection, inflammation) is a must. This can be discussed with your urologist, or imaging with a CT scan can be considered.
If the pain continues, another urology opinion can be obtained.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
