scrotal and stomach pain after hot bath

by Roydays, Apr 10, 2007 12:00AM
About 3 weeks ago I suffered a slight testicle injury  caused by a slight jerky movement with my leg. It was my left testicle. The pain wasn’t too bad but after 3 days of slight pain and slight nausea, I came on with chills so I went to the urologist who prescribed levaquin for a weeks as well as a jock strap and some hot baths. I followed directions religiously. I took a hot bath every day. On my 2nd or 3rd hot bath I noticed after being in the water 7 mintues approximately I felt some scrotal discomfort. I got out feeling scalded and I experienced some nausea and GENERAL scrotal pain now. This condition lasted for about a day and a half. I told the doctor on my next visit about 3 days after that. He couldn’t explain what had happened but it didn’t seem serious to him. As I was still experiencing some intermittent pain due to the previous condition he prescribed some celebrex for 2 weeks. After taking the celebrex for about 9 days I began to feel almost completely cured. However I noticed a new symptom. Granted the weather did turn quite cold all of the sudden (around 57 degrees F), I noticed my scrotum was almost always in the contracted state even after being indoors for a while. This went on for like 2 days then out of slight anxiety I decided to take a hot bath, being careful with the temperature. I did so (for about 7 minutes again) and unsurprisingly the same thing that happened last time happened. However this time the pain became a little worse within 24 hours of the hot bath and as did the nausea (though never severe). The pain lessened after about 2days as did the nausea though the nausea really just morphed into a weird sort of stomach ache and my testicles are still slightly in pain. I’m worried  I may have done something permanent to myself. Any advice?

Testing for STDs and other infection should be done first.  The Levaquin would help treat most cases of infection, but if chlamydia is present different antibiotics would be needed.

Also, checking the prostate should be done for enlargement or inflammation.  A digital rectal exam and/or a transrectal ultrasound can be done to image the prostate for an abscess.  If present, antibiotics will not be helpful.   A prostatic massage can also be considered, and any fluid sent off for analysis and culture.

Imaging the scrotum can also be considered to rule out anatomic abnormalities.

These options can be discussed with your urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
