I want to start out with a little back round. I'm a 21 yr old male and when fully erect my penis stands straight up. It has been like this for as long as I can rememebr and really does not cause any problems during intercourse because it can be bent down to stand almost straight OUT (flat) instead of straight UP.
If it is bent too far down, which has happened on occasion, I do feel pain, sometimes very sharp. Whenever this has happened it the pain has lingered while the penis is erect but then quickly goes away.
What I am trying to figure out is if there is an ultrasound, MRI, or something such as that, that would allow a doctor to examine the TOP of the base of the penis (the area that is in the body) to see if i have damaged my penis from over bending, etc? I would think it would be very easy to examine the external part of the penis, but since my bent must the at the VERY VERY base of the penis (seeing as though you cannot see a bend from the outside, it just looks as though it is standing straight up) I would think it would be difficult to view because of the pubic bone.
I would like to have this top area examined just to see what is going on. *Very Important* - I do no think that the fact that my penis stands straight up is necessarily peyronies diesase because it has been this way my whole life. I am more worried about the effects of the pain and bending that have occured in the past.
I was also wondering how long the active stage of peronie's can last. I have seen articles on the internet that say 1 - 2 years before it stops, but then I have seen posts from people who say they have it and is has been worsening for 15 years. Is there any real range? Seeing as though my penis stands straight up, it is a little hard to tell if it has gotten worse just by looking at it.
If you could help me on these two topic (tests that show the condition of the penis base, and the PD duration) that would be great! thanks!

Imaging with an ultrasound can determine if there are any anatomical abnormalities, including the plaques associated with Peyronie's disease, can be causing the symptoms.
Normally Peyronie's disease is conservatively managed, but if the symptoms continue or worsen there are a variety of treatment options. Surgery can be considered, but normally reserved for refractory cases.
Experimental therapies like injection of chemical agents such as verapamil, collagenase, steroids, calcium channel blockers, and interferon alpha-2b directly into the plaques can be considered.
The time that Peyronie's can last would vary from patient to patient and there is no 'defined' range to my knowledge.
These questions can be discussed with your personal urologist.
Radiation therapy is another treatment that is investigational.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
