Do I have Genital Herpes

by Nomad12, Jun 01, 2007 12:00AM
27 year old male. A month ago I had unprotected vaginal intercourse with a female. Next week I had very bad diarrhea and began to feel need urinate often and itchy. I went to urgent care to be checked out and my urine test was clean my glands were not swollen. Had no worries and felt good. Next week I went to regular doctor for full examination, he said that I was normal and no swollen glands or fever. About 4 days later began to worry again and started to itch. I noticed red bump on my inner thigh, looked like a pimple. Went to STD clinic. They did a swab of my penis (turned out negative), looked at the area, did a blood test, still waiting on those results, and said that everything looked fine and that the rash just looked like jock itch or chaffing. Once again I was relived and felt no symptoms after that. This past weekend the rash was still there, I go back care center. No symptoms except for chaffing. The doctor said that it definitely looked like a fungal infection or yeast infection. She swab the rash area for testing. Results next week. She prescribed me cream which is healing rash, antibiotics for the fungal/yeast infection. After that I felt good. Now I worrying more. Rash is not worse and not painful but now I feel have to urinate more than usual and have diarrhea. Could this be from the antibiotics? My groin area feels warm and scrotum looks red, had small drip of clear discharge come out urethra when I woke up this morning.

Difficult to say without evaluation.

If the diarrhea continues, stool tests can be done to exclude an infection.  An endoscopy can also be considered for a more definitive diagnosis.

Penile discharge is suggestive of infection.  If the tests continue to be negative, the prostate can be palpated and massaged.  Any fluid that is expressed can be sent for analysis and culture.

If herpes is a concern, the area can be cultured and blood tests be done.

A referral to a dermatologist can be considered if the rash is persisting.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
