i'm glad u made the point to place the syringe at the front of the cats mouth rather then on the side.  

but u realy shouldnt lay them on their backs.. they can easily asperate on the food.. especially if its too thin/watery or to much food is forced i

THANK YOU!  I'm on day 5 & my cat hasn't eaten a bit by herself.  I've figured out how to keep her hydrated, but feeding her has been a major fail so far.  I'm trying your methods today!
