Causes of Adult Acne in Women

Adult acne is a concern for the sufferer. Hormones play a role in the occurrence and intensity of breakouts in adult women.  Unfortunately, this cannot be controlled.  Yet there are counteractive measures that can be taken to minimize the intensity.

Hormone fluctuations can trigger the beginning of adult acne.  This is exactly the reason that many women suffer from adult acne around the time of their menstrual cycle. The reason is that a woman’s estrogen level is decreasing while her progesterone levels are increase.

This change in body chemistry causes the sebaceous glands to produce more oil.  This usually results in the appearance of pimples.  In fact, hormones may well be the largest contributor to adult acne in women.

There are other reasons that can contribute to adult acne.  Many dermatologists focus on pores are blockages and sebum builds up with the result being bacterial infections.  The infections are manifested through whiteheads and blackheads.  This is true, but there are other anatomical reasons as well.

The actual cause of acne is toxins and wastes that build up inside the body.  There are many ways that the body releases toxins such as through the kidney, the liver, the colon, small intestine and other organs.  If any of these organs is not functioning well, the toxins escape through the skin.

Yet another cause of adult acne in women is pregnancy.  A pregnant woman is likely to have adult acne because her body is undergoing a tremendous amount of hormonal changes during pregnancy.  It is typically more evident in the first trimester when hormones are changing very dramatically.

Finally, menopause can also trigger adult acne in women.  Menopause is accompanied by wide swings in hormone levels.  Acne at this time period does tend to be quite mild.
