HomeMade Gifts

This year I'm doing a lot of handmade for Christmas. Even if you are not a craft-person there is a lot that you can do in a snap!

*

I am going to be making homemade marshmallows and cocoa mixes.

*

I'm also going to be making mixes for beer bread, focaccia bread, and hotcakes. For the hotcakes I'm going to buy real maple cream (that is homemade by an Etsian).

*

To make mixes you will need some pretty jars with lids. Make sure you clean them really good, too! Simply mix your dry ingredients, or layer them, in the jar. Print off the directions and tie to the lid with a pretty ribbon!

*

There are also mixes for spices, for cookies, brownies, soups, drinks (coffee anyone?). I found a LOT on this website.

*

Not into making mixes? You can create your own jewelry, magnets, framed photos, blankets, gift baskets, etc.. Or you can support handmade artists by shopping at Etsy and other similar websites.

*

To make your own magnets, buy sheets of magnet (I found some at the dollar store!). Simply find pictures of your children, your spouse, you, etc. and place them on the sticky part of the magnet. Cut your picture and magnet out and voila! You have homemade magnets! I also made some with some pretty butterfly stickers I had!

*

Getting into creating blankets and making jewelry gets a little more complicated. But there are many tutorials online that teach you how to create beautiful and easy pieces that your loved ones will cherish! Earrings are by far, the easiest to make!

*

To make your own earrings you will need some ear wires, jumprings, pliers (2) and pretty beads, headpins. To make a SIMPLE dangle earring you will need to put your bead(s) onto a headpin and create a loop. Attach to a jumpring. Then attach the jumpring to the earwire! Voila!!! Make sure your jumprings are closed TIGHT. Make sure to practice and watch tutorials on how to make wire loops and open/close jumprings.

*

To make a blanket you can either knit, crochet, or do a simple no sew fleece blanket. Buy 2 yards of patterned fleece fabric & 2 yards of a solid color fleece fabric for an adult blanket! Here are easy step-by-step directions!

*

I hope this gave you even a little help in creating something from the heart for your family and friends. Please let me know if you have additional ideas that I can add!
