Lifestyle Changes: Some patients respond well to relatively simple lifestyle changes.  You can ask your specialist which lifestyle changes are appropriate for you.  Other patients may require medication in addition to lifestyle changes.

 

  • Dietary Changes
    • Increased Sodium
    • Increased Fluids -
      • Sports Drinks -
        • Gatorade
        • Powerade
        • Powerade Zero
      • Pedialyte
    • Smaller/Frequent Meals
    • Less Sugar
    • Eating foods of a certain temperature
  • Morning Routine
    • Take Medication Before Getting Up
      • Keep medication by bedside
      • Keep fluids by bedside
      • Keep compression stockings by bedside
      • Keep assistive equipment by bedside -
        • Walker
        • Wheelchair
    • Rise from bed slowly
      • Sitting first
      • Standing only if feeling well
    • Showering
      • Use lukewarm/cool water
      • Avoid long/hot showers
      • Avoid long peroids of standing
