Patients with CM1 may experience no symptoms. When symptoms are present, they usually do not appear until adolescence or early adulthood, but can occasionally be seen in young children.The advant use of MRI's are detecting Chiari alot sooner than it had in the past.

"Red Flag" Symptoms
The "Red Flag Symptoms" are related to brainstem compression; they generally occur in Chiari cases which are compounded by basilar invagination, basilar impression, retroflexion of the odontoid, and similar disorders.
The "Red Flag" Symptoms Are:
Severe swallowing problems Tachyarrhythmias Severe nausea (the kind where u loose weight to under 90 lbs)
