Health Chat FAQs

How do I find out what health chats are coming up?

All upcoming health chats are listed in the Doctors section of MedHelp. Click the Doctors icon at the top of the page, then click Health Chats. You'll see a list of
Upcoming Chats that have been scheduled. Check back often since we'll be updating it constantly as new doctors schedule their health chats.

How do I register for a health chat?

To register for a health chat, click the "Learn More" or "Register" link next to the chat you're interested in. You'll see a description of the chat and the doctor or expert who will be answering questions. Then click the "Register" button on the right. Some chats will require that you provide more information, such as your location or your diagnosis. If you are registering for a chat that has additional required fields, be sure to enter the information and then click "Register".

Are health chats free?

There are no fees to MedHelp members for participating in a chat, for asking a question, or for joining the chat and reading the questions and answers.

What do moderators do in a health chat?

The chat moderators will open and close the chat, review the questions submitted by the participants, and screen or edit inappropriate or off-topic questions.Moderators work with doctors and MedHelp to ensure that the chats go smoothly.

When can I submit my question for a health chat?

Chats open up an hour before their scheduled time to allow early birds to submit their questions. Although the doctor or expert won't be answering questions until the scheduled time, it's best to get your questions in early.

What kind of questions can I ask in a chat?

You may ask any question related to the topic of the chat and within any guidelines set forth in the chat description. Some doctors or experts will be very explicit about the types of questions they will answer. In addition, you cannot submit comments to another participant in a chat nor can you answer the questions submitted by other participants.

Is there a guarantee that my question will be answered by the doctor or expert?

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that your question will be answered by the doctor or expert during the chat. Many topics and experts are quite popular and can only answer questions during the allotted one hour. Some doctors will continue to answer questions later at their convenience after the chat has ended. If you submitted a question during the chat and it is answered later, you will receive an email informing you that your question has been answered and to review the chat archives.

Questions may also not be answered if they are repetitive, if the doctor does not have expertise in that subject area, or if the question is inappropriate or off-topic.

What if I forget what time the health chat is?

When you register for a health chat, please be sure to write down the date and time in your calendar. In addition, MedHelp will send you reminder emails 1 week and 1 day prior to the chat and a final email 30 minutes to 1 hour before the chat begins. When you receive this final email, you can join the chat then and submit your questions.

It's time for the health chat. Where do I go to access the health chat?

You can access the health chat from your reminder emails or from "My Shortcuts" when you're logged in. Your Shortcuts can be found in the upper right below the Search box.

I submitted a question. Why does it take so long to appear in the chat window?

When you submit a question, it goes to the chat moderato r for review. If the moderator approves your question, it is then submitted to the doctor to answer. When the doctor has answered all the pending questions and is ready to answer your question, then your question will appear in the chat window. Depending on how many participants have submitted questions to the doctor, the time it takes for your question to show up in the chat will vary.

If I missed the health chat, is there an archive or transcript I can read?

You can view the archives of all historical chats on the Health Chats section of the site. If you had registered for the chat, you should receive an email with a link to the archive within 24 hours of the end of the chat.
