I've had MSK for over 10 years. During that time I have come across two things that have really helped me.
#1. Urocit-K- IN the space of 5 years I had over 10 calcium/oxalate stones, multiple UTIs, emergency room visits and one basket retrevial surgery then my endocronologist did a work up on me and suggested that I try Urocit-K.
I took two pills twice a day for 4 years and was completely stone and UTI free. I still had some left kidney pain but nothing to really complain about.
In January 2009 they stopped selling Urocit-K in here in Canada and I was changed to K-Lyte which was supposed to me the same. In twleve short months I now have 5 stones in my left kidney and have been the emergency 3 times with renal collic and infection.
Just before Christmas the distributor here in Canada agreed to help me out and provided me with some tablets. Yes there is a Santa!
#2. Beer- My urologist told me to drink a least 1 beer a week. Apparently it acts as a diaretic and actually stops the stones from forming. I hate the stuff but thought I would give it a try.
It really does work. I also found that the beer actually gave me spasms in my back kidney area. I tried quite a variety of beers to find one that I liked. Never did find one, but I did find Alexander Kieth's to be the best at causing the spasms which I took as a good sign.
