What: Chiggers
Where: Low, damp areas with an abundance of vegetation and rodents, but they can also live in your front or backyard.
Telltale Signs: Unnoticed until hours after the chigger has
feasted on your skin tissues, red welts that resemble a rash appear in
places where skin is thin or wrinkled, like the armpits, ankles and
behind the knees.
Health Risks: When the chigger bites, the fluid it injects into
the skin can cause severe allergic reactions, including itching,
swelling and fever. If itching breaks the skin, a secondary infection
may occur.
