Mini but mighty certainly describes the blueberry. New research from the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics shows that this antioxidant-packed fruit may have the power to reduce high blood pressure and arterial stiffness, both of which are associated with cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. In just eight weeks, study participants who added one cup of blueberries to their diet each day reduced their systolic blood pressure by 5.1%, and their diastolic blood pressure by 6.3%.
