Lilah's 2 month appointment

Sep 13, 2012 - 0 comments

Yesterday was her 2 month appointment and it went really well. She weighs 12lbs 10ozs and I don't remember her length.
The doctor said her head control is basically that of a 4 month old and she definitely does not have a umbilical hernia. It was the granuloma and it looks like nothing was wrong with her belly button at all.
She didn't like her needles....what baby does! lol Lilah was crying and the nurse left the room to get bandaids, she stopped crying but once she saw the nurse again she just started crying all over again :( poor little thing. You can tell her legs are sore from the injections but she's been doing well.
Lilah is doing great at 8 weeks. She can hold her head up while on her belly, she is smiling and cooing. Just a little flirt. She LOVES her brother. He comes up to talk to her and she smiles away. She is an amazing sleeper. She is usually sleeping by 9:30 or 10 at the latest and will usually wake up around 1:30 and again around 4:30 and is up for 7 or 7:30. She does very well! :)
She is quite gassy but I know it's not an intolerance to milk like Brady had. He was VERY colicky but with her gas- she just grunts mostly. It barely ever makes her cry unless she has a very big bubble. My fast let down does not help her but I've been trying all I can and nothing is really helping. I think she is just getting used to it.

Umbilical granuloma

So I took baby girl to the doctors today because of the horrid rash that she has ALL over her face and it's been creeping onto her chest and back. It is actually baby acne. I was told at first this is what it was but it's gotten worse and I wanted to make sure. Poor thing.
Then I asked about her belly button because it looks weird and not right to me. It has also been seeping and crusts around her belly button.
The doctor said it was an umbilical hernia (not our reg doc). He said that they usually have to have surgery for it. This FREAKED me out. So I came home and googled!! It looks nothing like a hernia but exactly like an umbilical granuloma. It doesn't seem as much of a big deal as a hernia, which makes me feel better. I've read that you can treat it with table salt. I will start it tomorrow and see how it works. She has her next appt Sept 12th.
She also weighed 12lbs 3ozs today at well baby and the doc office. Almost a whole pound from exactly a week ago. LOL

Lilah 5 weeks old

She is such a great baby. She is an amazing nurser and does it like a champ. Even with all my overproduction and overactive letdown issues. Poor little thing gets a bit of gas from it but I'm trying to do all I can to prevent it.
She is great at night. She knows it's night time and stays sleeping or is easy to settle. She will give me some great stretches. 5 hours at times. The last week or so she's only gotten up twice between 10pm and 7am. This makes me VERY happy!! :)
She's a little chunker....such a double chin! It's so cute! I'm not sure how much she weighs. Her 6 wk appt is next week. I wanted to take her to well baby clinic yesterday but it was pouring rain outside.
She's just starting to smile and coo a bit. She will really smile at her brother. He is so gentle with her and anytime she cries he yells her name (which sounds like wawa) and will run to see her. It's so sweet. They will be the best of friends.

Never wrote my birth story for Lilah

So July 9th I had contractions that started about 4 am and stuck around for a bit. I got up to have a bath because it was a bit of back labour and I noticed I was bleeding. I thought for sure that was our day. But my bath wore my contractions off.
I really wanted them to come back so I went for a nice walk and bounced on my yoga ball. I went the whole rest of the day with nothing.

That night I went to bed around 11 pm. Contractions started up again at 11:30. I got up took 2 tylenol and 2 gravol so I could sleep through the contractions. (midwife said to do this so you can rest up before major labour starts).
I basically just laid back down and my water broke shortly after midnight. Yuck...what a mess! I stood over a towel for a bit and it suddenly came to me that I could wear my toddlers diapers!! Amazing...so glad I thought of that.

DH called my MIL to come stay at our house for Brady. We left and got to the hospital at 2:30am. We got in there, I was checked and was at 5-6cm. It didn't surprise me because contractions weren't super strong yet and they pretty much just started. Midwife put my IV in since I was GBS positive. I really wanted to go in the bath but the midwife at first said maybe not since I could progress pretty quick. She checked me again after 45 mins and I was still the same so she offered for me to go in.

Thank God because my spine felt like it was on FIRE!! Way different then with Brady. With him the tightening started in my back and went around to my belly. This time it just felt like it was burning and being ripped out.
I got in the tub and things got heavy and I was only in there for half an hour or so. I started to lose it a little bit and when it came time to get out I started to cry and say I didn't want to get out because I didn't want to move. That's probably because when I got out I felt the burning of her making her way down. I wasn't even all the way on the bed yet and I told her I felt burning and that next contraction I couldn't help but push with it. I scooted back more on the bed and she checked me...she said baby was right there and all that was holding her in was my vagina! LOL

The look on her face was shock....that's because she wasn't even in her whole delivery garb and the second midwife wasn't even there yet!! She didn't think I would progress from 5-6 to a 10 in such little time. Everyone was telling me to hold on and try not to push. HA, ya right...there was no stopping that. I yelled that I couldn't help it. I had Lilah at 4:49 basically right on the bed. There was no time to break the bed down to get the stirrups or anything. She was coming fast and furious!!

I had quite a few stitches again...I think I would have been good but little Miss Lilah decided to come out with her hand beside her face! She latched on right away like a pro and is absolutely beautiful!

I'm extremely happy and proud of myself that I have gone through 2 labour and deliveries without a stitch of drugs.
