IGH has not one thing to do with the sun,it simply becomes more apparent as you tan. It is the absense of melanin (color) just as it is when your hair turns gray. As we age we lose pigment an these small spots do increase each year as we age. They have proven that people who have nevere tanned still get them. Grafting of healthy pigmented skin has shown to help just as Cryotherapy. It will still continue to happen in other areas as you age. The assumption it happens because of the sun has no basis and is simply a guess from those who put little time and effort in to the actual cause which is simply age.

Dear Dr Aparna: - skin allergies generalized hives sometimes starting skalp and face and other times in lower legs and feet. I end up in the emergency room with other problems triggered (asthma or shortness of breath or feverish condition). i realized that i was not crazy when thinking that it could be caiser by sweting (ex. Near the sock elastic when exercizing or in my head. Iwas taking allergy shots every week, after doing standard allergy tests, but to stop last December because of a cold. Two questions: 1 should I continue with the allergy shots or is there a better treatment? 2 Could you recommena dr in Miami that diagmose and trest this condition? Should it be specialized in allergy or dermatology?

Dr. Aparna - My son has autoimmune urticaria and his school of 140 students has just confirmed the first case of H1N1. The vaccine is not yet available in my area and I believe that not only is he in a higher risk category of H1N1 because of his age (14) but is also being pushed into a higher risk category due to the above. I want to keep him home to do his work until the vaccine is available. Is this justified and because of his condition will the vaccine be ok. He had tolerated vaccines well. Last month he had menactra wiith no side effects. His urticaria relates to the cold stimuli. I am keeping him home today and want to go to the principal to discuss this.

Hi dr. i saw your response to another post about a rash and i was wondering if you could help me figure this one out. I'd been using aldara for 2 and a half weeks to treat hpv, which made my skin tear open like paper. then i got my period, i used pads the whole time, and i ended up with a large raised rash that peeled like a sunburn. its been almost four weeks like this, really raw and bumpy and spotty looking. im wondering if this is likely due to the pad, blood, or could it be something worse? the dermo didnt see it but he said dont put cortizone on it bc it can spread warts. any advice?
