Dedicated to Finding a Cure
JDRF’s mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the
support of research. We were founded in 1970 by the parents of
children with juvenile (type 1) diabetes, and our volunteers have each
made a promise to someone they love to do all they can to find a cure
sooner rather than later. These personal promises are what
animate our efforts and drive us, unrelentingly, toward our goal. The
perseverance of our volunteers, working in collaboration with our
professional staff, has resulted in JDRF becoming the world’s leading
charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research.
JDRF volunteers come from all corners of the globe and work through our
more than 100 chapters, branches and affiliates, worldwide. And whereas
our unmatched leadership in support of research provides hope for a
future free of diabetes, it is our dedication to each other and our
shared purpose as people personally affected by juvenile diabetes
that lifts our spirits and helps us do the hard work necessary to
succeed in our mission.
JDRF Online Diabetes Support Team
After a new diagnosis of diabetes, fear, anger, sadness, and confusion about how to manage
the disease can leave families feeling alone and overwhelmed. You are
probably full of questions. Your health care team can give you many of
the answers, but you may also want to communicate with someone who has
"been there".
We have been there. We are JDRF volunteers from around the
country: parents; children, teens, and adults who have diabetes;
siblings, spouses, and grandparents.
Whether you or your loved one is newly diagnosed or you have ongoing questions
and needs, we are here to lend our support. If you would prefer to
communicate privately with a JDRF volunteer, please contact
us directly.
The information provided by our volunteers is not intended to take the place of medical advice.
