.I have been getting these pimples type lesions on my lower legs, thighs and buttocks (very few). They are very red with a central dimple and a halo type surrounding. I did pick at a few and probably made them worse. They are single sores and not clustered and some I think might have a hair commimg out of them(not sure hard to tell). They burn occasionally and the ones that have healed seemed to have left some hyperpigmentation and scarring. I know you can't diagnose this via internet. But I was wondering if you have any ideas. I have read some sites that said possible folliculitis or even herpes. Thanks for your advice.

yellow2Without seeing the lesion, it would be difficult to say what it is. I suggest seeing a physician for the proper treatment.

If it is folliculitis, the treatment would be topical therapies such as warm saline compresses and topical antibacterial or antifungal agents.

If it is acne, the oral antibiotics may help. Examples include erythromycin, bactrim or doxycycline. They are usually prescribed for 4-6 months.

Another consideration would be molluscum contagiosum which is a form of virus. They typically resolve on their own. Curettage, cryotherapy, or laser therapies are modalities that may be used to remove individual lesions.

Again, having a dermatologic evaluation would be helpful in determining the proper treatment.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
