.I've been tested positive for Herpes Type I and II. The only symptoms I've show which is before I became sexual is herpes whitlow where I have water blisters on my middle finger. I don't know how I could have contracted this. Can someone tell me if this is Herpes Type I or II?

Also, what is the chances that the test can be a false positive? I'm thinking about going back to my doc to get re-tested? Should I ask for a different test or just the same test twice?
My doctor took a urine and blood sample for the test, but I don't know the name of the Herpes test.

Please advise.

sprintwindIt is important what test was done to diagnose your possible dual infection with HSV-1 and -2. (Not that it matter, but the scientific terminology uses 1 and 2, not arabic numerals I and II.) If not already done, tell your doctor you insist on the HerpeSelect HSV-1 and HSV-1 tests; see many earlier posts on this forum about the proper HSV blood tests. I don't know of any herpes test that can be done on urine; perhaps that was for chlamydia or gonorrhea, or just a routine urinalysis.

Herpetic whitlow can be due to either type, but HSV-1 is more common.

Good luck-- HHH, MD
