Doctor, My wife is not on a ventilater.she wastaken off the ventilater before she left the hospital.the first time she talked was in sept , of 1996 , 2 years and 8 months after the original insult which was , november 1, 1993. the first time she talked, it was because the solid canula was changed to fenistrated and their is no doubt in my mind she was no longer in hypothermia . hypothermia is definately an issue with coma , vegitative state, patient. doctor i have made discoverys in regard to coma veg .state patient.i have over 20,000 hours looking at this problem. I leave my e-mail address GEOFO@webtv.net . i will gladly explain to you what i dicovered . go 1000 miles in any direction from were you are standing , you will not find a coma vegitative that has talked after 5yrs. I look foward to talking with you. You are very correct, no vegetative patient has ever talked. That is by definition. So, by definition your wife is currently not in a vegetative state. You are very fortunate that your wife has recovered from her vegetative state after such a long time. You should submit an article to some journal. Sincerely, CCF Neuro MD
