.I have a family history of vitamin B defiency. My Grandma and Aunt both had vitamin B-12 defiency. Since I was a child I have suffered aniexty. For the past 4-5 summers I have developed insomnia, and nervousness. Both my Aunt and Grandma also have/had this same problem. I've read about vitamin B defiency and these symptoms occur for vitamin B. I also have muscle twitches (when trying to sleep), hair loss, warm spots on my feet. Could this be what is wrong with me. I have some stress, but its over. When I was younger I would experience my nerves seem to be moving fast and my body was moving at a different pace. I would go to the doctor but if its all in my head I'd be wasting my time. I have been but on different aniexty meds, but used them only a short time. My aniexty sounds so much like my families that I have a hard time believing its all in my head. (I found out that they had the same problem long after mine started). I started taking vitamin B-6 and 12 the past few days, and I'm now taking tylenol pm to try and help me sleep (doesn't always work). I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Can stress trigger a drop in vitamin B or whatever is causing this?

bcrfowlerAlthough stress can often be physically manifested as neuro-like symptoms, I always try to rule out any medical causes first rather than miss something that is potentially treatable. I haven't heard of stress causing a B12 deficiency, but B12 deficiency can cause several different psychiatric conditions such as anxiety, mania, or depression. Also, there is a genetic factor associated with B12 deficiency, so if you have a strong family history it may be worth it to see a physician and have your level checked. The other thing is that your current oral dose of B12 may not be enough if you really do have B12 deficiency. You may need an injection or a much higher dose. All in all, a good physical examination by an internist may point you in the right direction.
Good luck.

doctor Additional info is that after I found out about the high trigylercides I started taking chromium picolinate and I understood that may help lowering them. It was about that time that the insomnia started, but I changed my diet to include more fruits, less carbs, less fats. Could making these changes contribute to the insomnia and nervousness?
