Question Title: phimosis?Forum: The Urology Forum
| ||||
I'm an uncircumcised man. However, the foreskin of my penis only retracts about 1/10 during an erection. I've no problem in urination or ejaculation. I don't have any trouble having sex using a condom either. If I try to force the foreskin down, it hurts. Is this called phimosis? I'd like to know if I can have sex without using a condom given my condition. Should I have surgery? Thanks. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, the fact that you can not retract your foreskin either during an erection or when it is flaccid is considered phimosis. Although it is not imperative that you have a circumcision to correct this, it would allow you to retract the forskin to keep the area clean and perhaps prevent the discomfort you occasionally experience during intercourse (I gathered this from the other things you mentioned in subsequent postings). I’m not sure whether it would be a good idea to have your primary care physician inject any numbing medication in the foreskin (especially because the foreskin would swell making it more difficult to retract, and there is a rich blood supply to the forskin and injection into the forskin could lead to bleeding and further swelling). My recommendation would be to either have a circumcision, or do nothing at all. This information is provided for general medical education purposes only.
