adgal Always a great reminder.  This year we have chosen toys for teens.  They are often forgotten in the toy drives for small children.  We can't afford to help as much as we'd like, so every year we choose a charity, often a different one.

nursegirl6572 All great ideas.  There's (sadly) many organizations to pick from, and like I said, if money is tight, volunteer your time instead.  These organizations would be thrilled to have another helping hand.  Amanda, good idea, to pick something different every year.  I always do toys for tots, choose a few angels off a tree for our local seniors in homes, and then give to our local animal shelter.  This year, I may switch it up a bit.  Wish I could do more, of course.

Apollo1971 I have always had the outlook that, there are more people needing help including animals that we could all help with, so i just donate in the hope and im sure they are gratefull of the little donation i made.

joggen There are plenty of charities out there but there are a few of them that are scams. Make sure you know where the money is going before you donate. Otherwise most of your donation may go to pay for the C-level execs salary. http://www.charitynavigator.org/

nursegirl6572 Thanks for the info joggen, very helpful.  It's always a good idea to ask any charity you give to how MUCH of your actual donation goes toward the cause?  Obviously, the closer to 100% the better.  It IS acceptable for an organization to take a small portion for administrative costs...but like you sauid j, not to line someone's pockets!
