About Me: Male, 51, Dallas - TX, member since Jul 2008
In August 2007, I suffered a major heart attack. I was rushed from a veterans healthcare for homeless vets facility to the local v.a. hospital in Houston. A cardiac catheterization was performed and two coronary arteries were found to be blocked; one at 100% and so calc ... [More] ified that nothing can be done with it, a second at 90%, it was treated with a stent and medication. However; after my release, I found myself homeless again as the facility I had been staying kicked me out while I was still in the hospital. When I attempted to obtain refills, I was denied them and was denied follow up visits. Well, as luck would have it, I managed to obtain long awaited unemployment benefits and found an apartment in a drug infested neighborhood. I searched for a job and finally found one in Dallas where I moved in December. In April I was hospitalized with an abnormal EKG. At that time, I was told that my heart was very weak and that my ejection fraction was 36%. I was placed on medication but soon ran out and did not have the money to obtain any more. Finally, I was able to obtain civilian medical insurance and used it when I began having constant chest pains in late June. On July  2nd I went to a cardiologist who did a routine EKG and did an acute admission into the hospital across the street. I was suffering from another heart attack and a second stent was placed in another coronary artery. At this time, I was told that I suffered not only from congestive heart failure, an arrythmia disorder, cardiomypathy, and my ejection fraction is now at 20%. An Implantable Cardioverter Defribrillator was place in my chest.  Once again I had proper  medication until losing my job and insurance in mid October. I ran out of medication and last week suffered another heart attack. Three more stents were placed in me and I was treated with medications (which I still have). Upon my release from the hospital, I decided to walk to the store and was struck by an automobile - bad week indeed. Well, it's a new year and I have suffered two more heart attacks, one on December 18th and another last week on the 31st. Now my ejection fraction is at 15%. 2007-2008 was a very bad year for me. Bummer. [Less]
