About Me: Female, 21, Troy, NY, member since Aug 2009
I love to write; it's my absolute passion. I've been writing since I was very, very young; somewhere around 2 or 3. I would dictate stories to my mum and have her write them down for me because I had bad handwriting and couldn't spell many of the words. Fantasy, SciFi,
...
[More] Romance, Action/Adventure, thriller, horror - you name it, I'll write it. I love music of many types, mainly classic rock and heavy metal, and I love to make music. I sing, play electric bass (and own two), and can play piano alright as well (I own an upright and a keyboard). Also, I love the TV show Supernatural haha.
Medically, I've never really known the meaning of "health". I started having chronic UTI's when I was a few months old. For more fun, I'm asymptomatic, and may need a bladder transplant by the time I'm 21.
I've suffered from depression and have a few suicide attempts on record, along with quite a bit of self-harm. Since I met my boyfriend 3 years ago, all of that has gone away with his love, patience, and support.
I have had Mono twice in the last 4 years, both times untreated and undiagnosed until I'd gotten over it.
I'm a recovering alcoholic, from the days of my depression.
It's possible that I have rheumatoid arthritis. I really don't know what other types there are, but I have severe joint pain, and it gets worse when I have to pee.
To make life more fun, I have a lot of trouble with sleeping. Insomnia for the most part, but I also have whatever you want to call "asleep 2 hours, awake 3 hours".
I have been diagnosed with ADD. I suffer from panic attacks, especially when needles are anywhere near me (excluding sewing or knitting needles hehe), and stress induced anxiety attacks. It's entirely possible that I suffer from Schizophrenia, and I believe I might be Bipolar.
My biggest problem, however, are migraines. I have Chronic Heliplegic Migraine, and Baseline Headache as well. Hemiplegic Migraines cause my left extremities to not work. I can generally not feel or move my arm and/or leg if the Hemiplegic part kicks in, but this is getting more uncommon with time. Now its most common for my leg, or fingers or toes to be unresponsive.
For most people -so I've been told- a migraine happens when your blood vessels dilate after being constricted. Things like coffee are terrible and will cause you even greater pain during the migraine. For myself, it's the other way around. Forgive my terrible memory, I don't remember exactly how mine work, but if I get a migraine, I need coffee, soda, or something like Redbull. Redbull Sugar-Free has been amazing in helping my migraines go away. Sadly, I only drink them when it's really bad, because the flavor is so foul. For the most part I take Imatrex. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.
Baseline Headache means I almost never do not have a headache. I have been on many different types of medications to try an tame this, and none have worked.
It should also be put out there that I have a particularly crappy immune system, and we can't really figure out why. It seems most likely that since I have been on almost continuous medication (mainly Amoxicillin and Ciprofloxacin) since I was born, my body has not been able to develop the ability to fend off diseases and infections. I heal slowly, and am sick often. Because of this all, I was forced to drop out of highschool in 10th grade, but am continuing on with college at the local community college, taking a few classes at a time. I hope to get a degree there at some point, but what I really want is to be a best selling author. J. K. Rowling and Orson Scott Card are my idols. (Along with Michael J Strazynski - creator of the TV show Babylon 5)
If you want to talk with me about any of these problems, especially migraine and or "normal" or stress headaches, please do so! I would love to hear what other people have experienced with these diseases and what treatments have worked for them. :) Or any writers that want to talk about how their health influences and affects their writing, I would really love to hear from you as well! :)
