About Me: Female, 45, Poland, OH, member since Aug 2009
I've worked in medicine for over 20 years, working as a med. asst, medical billing manager, medical receptionist and most of the years as a medical transcriptionist. I hope to be able to make it back to school to get my LPN, then possibly RN.

I;ve had a ton of health issues this year, one right after the other. Honestly, if someone told my story to be, I'd be skeptic but it happened.
I have been a huge Minnesota Vikings fan since 1975. Oh, how I loved the guys in purple (no favorite color) but I think they've caused me quite a bit of emotional damage. It was bad enough losing 4 Super Bowls and watching Sir Francis retire. In 1998 they just had to get my hopes up, going 15-1 and to the NFC Championship game against the Falcons I still hate the Falcons but I hate Michael Vick more. If he ever plays close to where I live, I'll get an Eagles jersey and iron on it "Dog Killer". Wonder if I'll get thrown out of the stadium - LOL.
I have 3 gorgeous pugs, 9, 8 and 6 - one fawn, 2 black. The fawn is from a rescue,, male. The other two are a pair of male and female pugs. They are the joy of my life.
My husband was in the miliary (navy, subs) for 14 years. We finally settled down to civilian life in 2000 after him being out to sea so much throughout the year. We've been married 18 years now. It's really nice to see him every day rather than every 6 months or so.
Other than my passion for NFL football and pugs, I have a passion for reading. I just finished a book called The Hot Zone about Ebola and Marburg. Scary stuff. I love medical mysteries and their authors - Robin Cook, Robert Palmer, Tess Gerristen, etc. I'm also huge into true crime. Ann Rule writes excellent true crime books. However, IMO, nobody can top Lisa Gardner when she write. She does murdur mysteries that are page turners. I watch a lot of true crime on TV. I guess my mind is overanalytical and I try to figure out how these people can actually perform the crimes they do. I mean, dismembering a body? I think I'd have a nervous breakdown. I flip back and forth between those shows and Discovery Health (Love Trauma, Dr. G, Medical Examiner and several others. The rest of the time, it's tuned to Foxnews. Let's just say I am very worried about healthcare and government is not the solution. It angers me because I've worked for some really good doctors. If they pass this without passing tort reform, doctors are going to be reimbursed less and less while still having to pay for their massive malpractice insurance. I think it will tempt some to start committing fraud and overbill or bill for visits where the patient wasn't there. This group is the extreme minority. And they complain about ERs now and the crowding/wait time, let me tell you something - if you give people something for free (well, not really free - the rich and middle classes will be paying for it but it's free for them) like Medicaid, they'll tend to go to the emergency room for head colds, URIs, UTIs, etc. Heck, I broke my foot 2 weeks ago (navicular avulsion) and didn't bother going because they don't set fractures around here in the ER, they only give you a script for narcotics. I waited a few days and went to see a podiatrist now that almost my entire foot was black and purple. Now, this is what will happen to ERs if something like this plan passes: People are not going to be able to get in to see their PCP on a timely enough basis, so more and more of them will show up in the ER and everyone will probably wait about 17 hours to be seen. Maybe they could develop a socialized indemnity plan - $200 deductible and 80/20. That might cap some of the needless visits. We'll see what happens. I'll be going to more tea parties. And I honsetly hope this reform does not pass, not as it's written now and considering how they tried to rush it thru already with nobody reading it (good old backdoor politics) I have to wonder what else is in the second half of that bill .I think if he rams it tru, against most of the peoples' will, we're going to have a revolt. Sad. Oh, did I mention I'm conservative and still miss Ronald Reagan? :-) Have a great day, all!
