About Me: Female, 46, Cape Town, South Africa, member since Sep 2009
My postgraduate research interests are predominantly in Philosophy of Mind, in particular the problems concerning i. embodiment and mental extensivity ii. the Japanese philosophy of the Between, and Western notions of interactivity, iii. imagination, the imaginary, and

[More] the imaginative functions with particular interest in Pure Possibility and it's relationship in a distributed cognitive system, and in any constellation ofExtended Minds iv. musical embodiment and the function of, for e.g. rhythm structures, in coupled dynamical emergent systems, and v. the concept of the niche in Extended Evolutionary Theory, and how culture, and the mind-body are considered within this model. I have some other interests, as in how we study the para-linguistic emergence of collaborative learning, and in organisation-environment strategies.
I have run my own Consultancy in Organisational 'Ecology', and in Culture & Client Surveys, and only recently re-entered the community development arena. The latter is a a fledgling joint venture and Fair Trade initiative between myself and groups of Zulu woman beaders, who will help me create pashminas beaded in the African style!
I enjoy painting, sketching, designing, sewing, jewellery-making and small sculpturing. I adore to have my own garden, and with it a dog. This wish will have to wait until I have the DBS implant.
Although I am a chronic pain patient I still practise the design art of landscaping if folk give me half a chance to help them put together an unusual outdoor living space. I am passionate about preserving habitat, growing own food and herbs and in living 'lightly' on the planet. I have been vegetarian for 25 years, and drink very little alcohol. I feel bereft if without a book to read, and cannot sleep unless I have done so. I would exercise if I could, by doing karate, gym and hiking in the wild, but this is at this point only a dream.
Although my life is exceedingly solitary, I have wonderful distance friendships, and am blessed with a bizarre, eclectic and highly unusual set of friends from many different cultures.
In my perfect world I would perfect reading and practising French and German, and I would be well versed in Japanese. I would be doing night courses in Fashion and Textile design, and day courses in getting my thesis done!
