Here's something that helped me ...I've had UC for 15 years (six weeks into my worst flareup ever after 3 years of remission. Anyways I just realized the majority of my discomfort (not pain) is due to the fact I can't pass gas. After living in the bathroom for 3 weeks I figured this out ... Here's the quick and simple ... it's part of a larger dynamic maneuver I use to relax the entire colon that takes all of about 2 minutes. Okay. Get on your hands and knees. Go down to your elbows and push your hands out a little (like you praying). Slowly move your head to your hands. In about six seconds you should fell the urge to pass gas. It is usally dry enough to let it go. You have now passed gas without having a BM. I also do this now before I have a BM and it reduced the pain and recovery time.
I've had UC for 15 years (the last six weeks the worst flareup by far in my life) and just figured out the majority of my pain is gas related. I figured out how to fix it ... at least for me. I'm gonna give you the quick and easy ... get on your hands and knees ... go down to your elbows so with your hands out. Have your head kinda down and very slowly move your head to your hands. In about six seconds you should feel the urge to pass gas. It should be dry enough to come right out. I've done this even in the worst times of flareups when passing something even the size of a grain of rice is murder. This is only a small part of a dynamic movement I kinda figured out that relaxes the entire colon. - Washington USA
