Can dogs be autistic?????? We adopted an 8 month old puppy from the pound on Jan. 5, 2009. He was weak, lethargic and different from the start but we thought it was his injured back pad (was in the process of healing when they let u
[More]s adopt him) plus the neutering... After several weeks he never improved (his pad healed slowly, but he still walks weakly and funny) and now a year later and soooooo many vet visits later he is still basically the same. We had x-rays done and bloodwork done. No broken bones. He is slightly anemic with high urea nitrogen and creatnine I believe ( a year ago). The vet thinks he may have survived distemper. Anyway, he just lays around all day, does not play, cannot jump at all and also cannot run as his back legs are just "off". He does not bark or respond to normal stimuli like the doorbell or people enteroing the room..... No reaction or acknowledgement. He also walks very stiff legged in the rear and looks like his hocks are loose and sloppy. Lastly, he is always vibrating like shivering all over his skin and he is not a little dog ( they tend to normally vibrate) He is 50 pounds. Any advice at all is appreciated :) I do not think he is in pain as he does not whimper......
