Just a quick note to say hi! After a partial nephrectomy in November 2009, I also have fluid with a big protrusion as well as swelling around the scar (larger than initially. From what I am told, the cause is nerve damage as well as muscle trauma and tissue trauma. My primary care physician said recovery can take up to a year, after which time the effects are likely to be permanent. I too no longer fit in some of my clothes and my body has decidedly and obviously changed shape midsection. I fret about it but CT scans show nothing but fluid. I guess damage, swelling, discomfort and fluid retention are not uncommon.
