His maternal grandfather, Leonard was blind from glaucoma and his earlist memories were of walking him as a seeing eye 5 year old to get his hair cut. He would also walk him and Leonard would tell him stories of life in SCILY where he hailed from/
Cappello excelled academically upon entering PS145school. In his twelve years of public education he achieved a perfect record - straight A's for 12 years. He also played varsity football, He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School 1966 During the summer months throughout high school and college, Dr. Cappello earned money for his education by working with his father delivering Pepsi to stores .It was back breaking work and gave him insight how important education was/
Cappello was accepted to St. Johns University in their Early Decision program. He continued to excel as an undergraduate . He completed the requirements for his Bachelor's degree in 4 years, .. He gained admission to many of the top medical schools in the country and chose to attend Creighton School of Medicine..in1970
In 1974 Dr. Cappello graduated from medical school in the top third of his class. He became interested in Orthopaedics after junior clerkship with Dr Tomolo sparked his interest.
From 1974 through 1980 Dr. Cappello completed an orthopaedic surgical internship and residency at Nassau County Medical Center which was part of the SUNY STONYBROOK PROGRAM. He completed his residency at Hamot Medical Center which better suited his abilities. While there he won numerous statewide research awards. He also scored some of the highest scores in the history of his residency program on the Orthopaedic In-Training Exam, an annual test of orthopedic knowledge administered nationwide among orthopedic residents in training. During his residency Dr. Cappello wrote many articles for the Orthopedic journals..
Dr. Nicholas Cappello visited Doha QATAR I, in late 2001 and saw the need for western trained physicians in this oil and gas rich country. There were many expats arriving from Exxon,ConnocoPhilips and French company Total. He became very busy Teaching the Local orthopaedic surgeons the latest techniques in arthroscopy.
In 2008 he became the CEO and Medical Director of the first Western private clinic in DOHA Qatar with a staff of International Surgeons.
