About Me: Female, 39, West Haven, UT, member since May 2010
I am a successful small business woman. I thought my life was complete with a few problems before April of 2010. Within 9 hours, my life went from happy and normal to total hell. I had developed pneumoccocial strep bacterial meningitis and almost lost my life. I thought

[More] I got off easy as my husband persisted on getting me fast urgent care as I was almost unconscious. My Dr told my husband to take me home and sleep it off as he thought I just had a migraine. The other Dr's said I would be dead if he would have done this. I did not end up in a coma and was treated and released to home care within a week. I was out of work for a couple of months and I am still struggling to recover. I have severe constant headaches on my left side that the Dr's seem to dismiss. My short term memory is gone. I have vision problems such as double vision most of the time and my eyes don't track together. I also see lights around objects. My ear is hypersensitive to noise and I have ringing in my ear on my left side. I have weakness on my right side, muscle twitches and cramps. My MRI of my brain is unremarkable. My MRI of my neck is horrible though-it was fine a year ago. I have frequent kidney infections as my levels are not what they should be. I don't sleep well either due to pain. All of this has happened since the meningitis. I am grateful to be alive. I know that is a major battle that the Dr's were glad to get me through. They just seem to forget about you afterwards though. I have read that this is a common thing with survivors. Please don't forget about us as we need your help now too.
