About Me: Male, 60, Syracuse, NY, member since May 2010
I am a 57 Yeas old male. I am retired and on disability, having worked as a substance abuse counselor, in/outpatient mental health provider, crisis intervention, and 20 years as a Child Protective Services worker. A few weeks ago, neurologists finally, confirmed a dx o
[More]f MS (first symptoms having occurred in 1978 and lasting about two years before going into remission for more than a decade.)
Arriving at a dx of MS was always complicated by the fact that I have another major neurological disorder, Neurofibromatosis, Type1 (NF1). In addition, I also carry a dx of Degenerative Disk Disease. My spine looks like it was hit by a train and I have several neurofibromas (tumor-like growths) in my brain and along my spinal cord. I deal with constant chronic pain. I will begin TX with Copaxone in one week.
Interests include “mushrooming,” fishing, identification of plants/trees/birds, etc., any non-stressful pursuits of nature, Catholic spirituality, philosophy, reading, music (anything with the exception of RAP, hip-hop, teeny bopper music), gardening (playing in the dirt/mud), sitting by a small stream listening to the water, cooking, ancient history/archeology, waiting for the “other shoe to drop, etc... I'm trying to re-learn how to do many of the above activities because of the physical dysfunction.
no your not a pain at all, i am going in on wednesday , thursday and friday. I havent got to stay in just have 3 days of half hour iv steroids. No not had any previous treatment whatsoever i am just taking codeine based drugs for pain. Neuro says the steroids are ok wont make me put on weight and no side affects unless taken for long periods of time. As you propably know im still been tested for MS and when i have my next appt with neuro i will find out results of my LP and 3rd MRI. He said the steroid treatment would calm the pain and if its autoimmune related it would work for this also..
forgot name of steroid off hand but it is wrote in my journal..
