yeah i do have a retroflexed odontoid but very minimal "basilar impression." Dr. B has already been super helpful in convincing all my doctors that this was a problem that needed to be fixed. My new NS spoke very highly of him but thought that the surgical treatment we had come up with was way more than I needed. After doing a bit more research, i totally agreed. I've never been tested for a connective tissue disorder. I'm sure I have one because my joints are always popping on their own but again, it's pretty minimal. Once my brain chemistry is restored who knows what will happen with that. The procedure will only take about an hour so I'm pretty psyched all around :)
I"m so happy for you that this worked out :) :) :)
I have not had surgery yet. I got a second opinion and like you, I'm following my gut (and ridiculous amount of research) and have decided to get a simple PFD. It's not even brain surgery anymore really. Just made the call today :)
Anyways, lots of love<3 you're a champ!
im not sure how to respond on this thing. but if this is your first surgery i wouldnt reccommend the fusion. The decompression alone might be all the releif you need to live a normal life. I had to go through 2 decompressions and i feel much better, the fusion has a lot of wishy washy circumstances and if you can release the pressure on your brainstem from the decompression alone i would suggest that. def consider physical therapy post op so you can recover range of motion in a timely fashion
