HI Auriel
I would see about giving myself a couple of weeks at least if you have the sternum route. It takes a long time for the bone to heal. In fact I just dont think I could have handled flying for a long time a fter my surgery. It was difficult enough on the drive home from the hospital. I was in the hospital for 3 days. but I wouldnt have minded staying 7 days. I know I am weird but it was really hard to get in and out of bed at home.
Maybe see about taking the train back with a sleeper car if you can . I jsut think all that g force on taking off and landingI will say prayer that they can take it out the regular way.
I went through the same as you are about to do. They discovered the sub sternal thing in surgery and I had to go back tgo have it done.

Just a quick note to say hi!
Venora, I read your note. In the spring I am due to have my other half of thyroid removed as I have a substernal goiter-pretty large. They are not sure if they have to go sternotomy route or not! I am leaving Florida to have this surgery at the UC at Denver. My question is how will I be after the surgery as I will have to fly home to FLA? Surgeon says 3-7 days in hospital! Would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks, Suzanne I just joined as Auriel.
