About Me: Male, smallville, IA, member since Oct 2006
OK..... A little more about me. I'm currently 59, single and still raising a few barely adult kids. Divorced/ Separated 2000. Single parented since then but they are all adults now, more or less. : ) Life is easier.
DX'ed in 2003 just as I figured to start dating again........ but it just never happened. I got involved in another HCV board and have been busy ever since. I've had a few close calls but never really got into dating the non infected "outworlders." : )
I am largely non-symptomatic. I do construction remodel work of all kinds. It's a good balance doing something very physical and then coming inside and doing something on the computer. Variety is nice.
I like my life and sometimes I think that getting diagnosed was one of the greatest adventures of my life. I can't ever remember being so interested....captivated and engaged in anything like this before. Kind of a geek, eh? HCV has been a great sensei.
Ah...what else? I am involved in some 12 step programs. I've gone to Al-Anon for 8 years or so. It's where I first came in contact with helping people. When I became diagnosed with HCV it became another sort of outlet for some of the same principles. I heard this quote several years ago in an AA/Al-Anon picnic. It was written by the Dalia Lama and posted the day after or the day of 9-11 in response to the attack. The last several paragraphs speak to me about why some of us work with HCV bulletin boards.
What can you do TODAY...this very moment? A central teaching in most spiritual traditions is: What you wish to experience, provide for another. Look to see, now, what it is you wish to experience - in your own life, and in the world. Then see if there is another for whom you may be the source of that.
If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another. If you wish to know that you are safe, cause another to know that they are safe. If you wish to better understand seemingly incomprehensible things, help another to better understand. If you wish to heal your own sadness or anger, seek to heal the sadness or anger of another.
Those others are waiting for you now. They are looking to you for guidance, for help, for courage, for strength, for understanding, and for assurance at this hour. Most of all, they are looking to you for love. My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.
In a larger sense we are all in recovery here. We are trying to overcome the virus. We are trying to recover from the treatment. We are all trying to get better, trying to not get worse, trying to stay alive and reasonably well while treating or while waiting to treat. It has been my pleasure to walk the path with so many of you.
yes......I am long winded. : )
(02/09 edit) Finally got my biopsy in June of 08. I'm a 1/6 ISHAAK; life is good!!!!
I plan on treating within the next 5 years but I keep waiting since treatments keep improving. If my sides continue to mount I may change my tune but for now I am a watch and wait guy. I continue to make diet lifestyle changes which may limit my damage progression and fight other co-morbidities common to HCV. (low fat, no alcohol, limit nsaids, reasonable diet and plenty of exercise)
I posted pictures of my weekday run during lunch. The system posted backwards because I started with the first picture and it makes it last. This is a 2 1/2 mile run but is straight up looking over the Pacific ocean. take a look and hope you enjoy-Patti-Oh also posted picture of my 7985 pill. Thanks
