If you send me a message I'll fwd my e-mail.. THANKS!
Hi there, Just wanted to update you because you've been so helpful. My daughter saw her Endo last Thursday and he decided that her levels were still a little low so he upped her dose to 50mcg. I asked him about whether there may be any interference between the Synthroid and her bipolar meds and he said no, that what happens is that the Trileptal she's on has an effect on her pituitary, so even though her levels might read okay, she's still feeling the side effects of being without her thyroid (most of it) so he recommended no changes to her psych meds. He also agreed that that is probably why, according to what I've reasearched lately, that people with hypothyroid, who have a history of depression are more likely to need near-high to high doses. Thanks for your support!
Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate it so much. I guess the thyroid hormones do affect neurotransmitters, which is most likely why my daughter was having the depression side effect, and feeling that her bipolar meds weren't working right. She seems to be feeling somewhat better right now. Her thyroid doctor changed her appointment from this Tuesday to Thursday to a time that is bad for her but we have no choice at this point. It is the worst office to deal with.....very long waits and they NEVER return calls. She will be seeing a new, highly recommended Endocrinologist in July sometime. I haven't heard from her psych nurse practioner on her bipolar meds either! This is ridiculous! Thanks for your help! I'll keep you posted.
Hi, I read your post here. I know its from January but I was hoping you'd be checking in maybe. Could you tell me if you've ever been told that Synthroid can have negative effects on your bipolar meds? My daughter just started the Synthroid about 6 weeks ago and she's feeling extremely depressed and her entire body is achey and she's exhausted. I just found out from someone that it can mess up psych meds. Any suggestions?
