I Had this done in December 2010 in C3-C4-C5
As Shadow95 states below, the FDA will only do single level replacement. I required 3 (or so the surgeon thought). I first went to Lehey for removal of bone spurs; no luck. Long story short, I ended up in the UK at the London Spine Clinic; best move I ever made.
After performing a "diskography" I probably spelt that wrong, they determined that only one disk needed replaceing and the other 2 fused. I had been totaly against fusion as I am only 47 and was not keen on loosing mobility. Anyhow, 2 fused and one replaced. I feel great. Cost wise it was WAY cheaper than the US and the level of care was amazing. The hospital was better than many hotels (including a great in-room wine list). buchanan_chris at hot mail if you want more info.
A lady I know had 3 discs replaced. She had to go to Germany to achieve this as the FDA has only approved 1 level in the US. If you find a US DR. to do multilevel it is not covered by medicare or insurance. It cost her $70,000 cash. The results have been remarkable. She was in a wheelchair and now is able to walk and almost ready to go back to work part time. The surgery was 9 months ago. Good Luck
it is still considered experimental..generally for 1 level only..I had c5-7 fused..got my life back (58 yr active male) I know 4 other men who have had same...acdf is much safer with better prognosis..good luck
