I was also diagnosed with chostocondritis, and then i went to an asthma/allergy Dr, and I had the heaviness in my chest and shallow breathing as well like you, and they diagnosed me as my breathing problems coming from mild asthma, and put me on an inhaler, this helps some, but i think they are right about it being asthma, as i did smoke for 10 years before these attacks started happening, thank God i quit when I did though, because I am too young(28) to have these kinds of problems.
